...
Dinner at Niche was fantastic. It exceeded all of our expectations and then some. I had a maytag blue salad with field greens, candied pecans, pears, maytag blue, and a champagne vinaigrette. My main course consisted of pork belly braised in amber bock, truffled polenta, and spinach with salsify. Desert was a strawberry panna cotta with strawberry sorbet.
SuperWife had a cheese plate with a soft French cheese similar in taste to camenbert but the texture was closer to port salute. It was served with strawberries, pear slices, spiced nuts, and toast points. Wow. She had roasted halibut with mint rhubarb soubis, creamed cauliflower, and smashed English peas. Her desert was a liquid chocolate cake with B52 ice cream. I can't give this place a high enough recommendation. While the food was outstanding and the space very eclectic, the servers were very down to earth and the place has a comfy feel to it. Do try it if you have the chance. Niche is another gem in the emerging Benton Park neighborhood. It was a lovely accent to our five year wedding anniversary.
I'll try to get my recipe for sambar up this week for the carnival. It's a lovely adaptation of a traditional Indian vegetarian dish.
