...
Hell has indeed frozen over. On the way into work this morning I turned on the Sirius 1 (hits) and Rascal Flatts was on. This is the channel that plays Shakira and all of that type of stuff. Rascal Flatts??? Either I'm way out of touch with mainstream music or Sirius is.

It's been a long, hectic month and I've finally found time to update this monster. I had every intention of posting a recipe this week but ran out of time. It will have to wait until next week. I'm on a big kale kick so watch out. The stuff is so yummy and new to me that I'm trying it out in all kinds of ways. $2 buys a big bunch at the farmer's market.

Speaking of food, I've managed to find a really good resource. Julie Ridlon, market master for the Clayton Farmer's Market, caterer, and all around food guru has ignited a new desire to cook local and fresh food for the family. My adventures in food only started a few years ago when I broke out of the mentality that fish sticks and Helper was gourmet food. I've never been to culinary school, I have never worked in a restaurant (except a crappy pizza parlor for all of two months), and I can't run around and eat as many tasty treats since the kids were born. What I can do is read a lot of books and absorb as much as possible from online forums. In other words, I feel way out of my league with chefs and professionals in that industry in general.

I wish I could repay people who have given me a push into the foodie world, and Julie specifically because of her new and fresh ideas. How do you repay someone when you don't really have anything to bring to the table? My family is the big winner in all of this. Because I don't have any outlet besides cooking at home they get to sample a lot of new things. The kale has been the biggest hit. Most kids might balk at veggies, but ours love them. We always try to eat with them as often as possible and our dinners are the same as theirs. Superwife and I set the example so the kids will be more inclined to do like Mommy and Daddy.

In other news, the fence looks like it may finally be coming down to its last days. We are going to talk to the fence co today to see when they can fit us into their schedule. I can't imagine being able to actually use the gates without fear of something falling on me or the dog. All we have to do is get past the neighborhood trustee review and it should be good to go.
